A South Roscommon boy has been making waves at a world sailing competition in Cork, taking home the gold medal in his class. 11-year-old Donnchadh Duane from Taughmaconnell came first in the International Topper 4.2 World Championships Silver fleet race held at the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven. The International Topper vessel is a single-handed sailing dinghy. Donnchadh topped the podium ahead of two Chinese competitors and was presented with his gold medal by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Frank O’Flynn and World President of the International Topper Class Association, Andy Millington. Donnchadh is a member of Lough Ree Yacht Club in Athlone and goes to Creagh National School.
